WEAPON DUELS Murderer Loadouts & Matchups
Knife swings, throw timing, and rotation rules for the melee disruptor of every pad.
What a Murderer actually does
The Murderer is the melee disruptor of every WEAPON DUELS lobby. Your job is to pick a target, close the distance, and remove them before they can hand the role away to a teammate. Unlike the Sheriff, the Murderer does not win by range control - you win by knife timing, off-angle positioning, and Dash discipline.
This page covers what Best Loadouts only sketches: the build theory, the matchup math, and the rotations that make a Murderer scary at every pad size.
Core Murderer weapon picks
Murderers specialize in fast knife swings and throw combos. The community weapon tier list lives at Weapons tier list; these three picks show up in most top Murderer loadouts.
| Weapon | Why it fits Murderer | When to swap |
|---|---|---|
| Combat Knife (starter) | Fastest swing speed, low cooldown | Punishes slow Sheriff aim |
| Heavy Knife | Higher per-hit damage at cost of swing speed | Better against bulky Innocents |
| Throwing Knife (E) | Throw to close the last 8 studs | Save for finishing low-HP targets |
If you only have the starter pool, the Combat Knife is the cleanest duelist pick. The Heavy Knife shines in 2v2 and 4v4 where you trade survival for burst.
Murderer ability pairings
Murderers live and die on gap closers and finishers. These pairings are the most common in ranked.
- Dash + Shroud - the textbook entry kit. Shroud breaks the Sheriff aim; Dash commits the kill.
- Sprint + Dash - maximum chase pressure. Sprint rotates you into position; Dash closes the last 4 studs.
- Sprint + Sprint - high-skill finisher build. The melee ability paired with Sprint lets you catch a fleeing Sheriff who just used Shroud.
The Abilities page lists every ability and its cooldown. Skip Weapon Buff - it plays to the Sheriff identity and wastes your Stars as a Murderer.
1v1 Murderer playbook
Solo pads drop you into a duel where the Sheriff can hold distance with impunity. You have to close the gap or die trying.
- Spawn and immediately cut off the outer ring. Force the duel into mid pillars.
- Bind Dash to a thumb-friendly key; you will use it twice per round on average.
- Throw the knife (E) to break the Sheriff stance, then close with melee.
- Avoid peaking the same angle twice. Sheriffs punish repeat peeks.
- End the round with a knife combo, never a stray bullet - your starter gun is a panic tool, not a primary.
Practice in a private server so you can repeat the same opening 20 times without losing rank.
2v2 and 3v3 Murderer playbook
Team modes turn the Murderer into a striker, not a duelist. The winning squads use the Murderer as a tempo play rather than a clean-up.
- Striker Murderer: Dash + Shroud. Call a flash entry on mid, then commit to whichever target the Sheriffs are slow to cover.
- Cleanup Murderer: Sprint + Sprint. Stay near the team-fight, then sweep in once a Sheriff is low.
- Triple stack: Run one Sprint Murderer, one Dash Murderer. The two builds cover each others worst matchups.
Map callouts live on the Map Callouts page. Combine them with Combos so your Dash timing is consistent across maps.
4v4 Murderer playbook
Four-versus-four is the hardest format for Murderers because there are four targets and only one of you. Do not try to solo the round.
- Watch the lobby and identify the Sheriff with the highest sensitivity - that is the weakest target.
- Spawn and rotate to a flank route (B1 / H4) instead of running straight mid.
- Wait for the first Sheriffs peek, then commit to the off-angle target.
- After one kill, stop chasing and reset. Greed is the number-one reason Murderers lose 4v4 rounds.
If you cannot agree on a target, drop the discussion in your team Discord and use the /e emote wheel to confirm.
Murderer vs Sheriff matchup math
The Murderer wins against the Sheriff in roughly 45% of duels at long range, but the closer you get, the faster the math flips.
| Range | Murderer win rate | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 25+ studs | 30% | Sheriff dominates unless you have Shroud ready |
| 12-25 studs | 50% | Even; ability usage decides it |
| Under 12 studs | 70%+ | Knife trades win for the Murderer |
If a Sheriff is camping at long range, rotate to mid pillars to force them to chase. Forcing a chase is the Murderers strongest offensive pattern.
Common Murderer mistakes
- Forgetting to throw the knife. E is the cleanest gap closer in the game. Tap it before every Dash commit.
- Running Weapon Buff. It is a Sheriff ability. Use your Stars on Shroud and Sprint instead.
- Standing still while waiting for a target. Murderers who idle get pre-aimed. Always be moving between off-angles.
- Chasing a low-HP Sheriff into a corner. Sheriffs love corner-shotting; reset to spawn and rotate.
- Ignoring the second Sheriff. In 4v4, you have to commit to the team-mate you can kill fastest, not the closest.
What to spend Stars on as a Murderer
Murderers benefit most from knife skins and ability unlocks first. Cosmetic clarity matters more than raw damage - a clean knife trail makes it easier to read your own swing timing.
Recommended spending order:
- Shroud unlock - the strongest entry ability.
- Sprint unlock - high-skill finisher that wins 4v4 rounds.
- Throwing Knife trail upgrade - clearer swing animation.
- Cosmetic loadout for the Best Loadouts card border.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
What is the best starter weapon for a Murderer?
The free Combat Knife. Its fast swing speed beats Sheriff aim at close quarters, which is where you want the duel to happen.
Which abilities pair best with a Murderer build?
Dash + Shroud for entry plays; Sprint + Sprint for cleanup. Skip Weapon Buff since it plays to the Sheriff identity.
Can a Murderer win a 1v1 against a Sheriff?
Yes, especially under 12 studs. The Murderer win rate drops below 30% at 25+ studs, so forcing close range is the whole job.
Should I use the throwing knife every round?
Save it for finishing low-HP targets or breaking a stalemate. Spamming E wastes your strongest gap closer.
Do private server wins help me climb leaderboards?
No. Only public server wins count toward the global leaderboard. See the Private Server guide for the full policy.
Is the Murderer role beginner-friendly?
It is the hardest role to learn because knife timing is unforgiving. Pair this page with the Controls guide and practice in a private server before ranked play.
